Shreyas Iyer is still to find his best form in the World Cup 2023 but the stylish batter from Mumbai has already made the record for the longest six in the ongoing World Cup 2023. The right-hander hit a 106m maximum against Sri Lanka on Thursday to get to the top of the table for the longest sixes in World Cup 2023.

Iyer’s humongous six came in the 35th over of India’s innings against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium. Kasun Rajitha’s delivery in the slot ball and off was smashed over long-on for the biggest six in the World Cup 2023.

The record was held by Glenn Maxwell till Thursday who had hit a 104m six against New Zealand in Dharamsala. While Maxwell has now moved to the second spot, the third place is also occupied by Iyer for his 101m maximum against Afghanistan in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli made a new world record on Thursday before getting out on 88 and failing to make a record-equalling 49th ODI ton. Kohli has now scored over 1000 ODI runs in 2023 and he is the only player to score 1000 or more runs in eight calendar years. He broke the record of the great Sachin Tendulkar who achieved the feat seven times in his career.
India will be looking to beat Sri Lanka on Thursday and seal qualification for the World Cup 2023 semi-finals. With six wins out of six matches, unbeaten India are just one victory away from a semi-final spot. A defeat would also not spoil their plans as they are in a comfortable position and can complete the job in the next two matches.
They can also qualify with three defeats if other results go in their favour.
On Thursday, Kusal Mendis won the toss and opted to bowl first against India.
