An actress, who became an instant household name after her debut film Aashiqui, life wasn’t all ‘roses and sunshine’ for actress Anu Aggarwal. Despite being one of the brightest Bollywood stars between the 1980s and 1995, Anu Aggarwal has time and again confessed that it was not a very ‘happy’ phase of her life and that she faced a lot of challenges being a single girl living alone in a city like Mumbai. In her recent interview, Anu while speaking about how people would line up outside her home and stalk her, also opened up on how her living style even left megastar Amitabh Bachchan surprised.
In a conversation with the Indian Express, Anu Aggarwal shared a lot of deets about her life as a 20-year-old actress, who became an overnight superstar.
‘I was alone, would feel like sitting in a jail…’ Aashiqui actress
Speaking on the kind of attention that she got after her debut film Aashiqui was released, Anu shared that people would smash bottles and just want to be close to her.
“So when people tell me that I am lucky to get all that attention from everyone I would tell them ‘You have no idea how difficult it is for me. I was a non-conformist as well which is why it was more difficult for me. I wasn’t an ideal, obedient girl,” she said further adding that she wanted to get rid of the mayhem happening around her.
Anu also shared her experience after moving to Mumbai and said, “Things were completely different. It was a different mindset and I was growing up with a group of people who were usually talented and non-materialistic.”
Speaking on how she dealt with all the Aashiqui fame that happened, the actress continued,” I started meditation. It was an amazing tool that helped me deal with the stardom that happened after the film. It was just maddening. I became a sensation. I was on magazine covers. I couldn’t go out anywhere. My life completely changed. I was alone at home and would feel like sitting in a jail.”

While spilling dates about her initial days as a budding actress, Anu Aggarwal also recalled the time when she left superstar Amitabh Bachchan surprised.
Mentioning how she would feel scared about stalkers turning outside her house, Anu said there was a strong staff in the building that helped her with security.

“Once I was in Ambani’s house and Amitabh Bachchan was also there. He asked if he could drop me. When we reached the building he asked me twice ‘You stay alone?’ I said yes. Back then, people would get shocked at how a new girl could live in the city alone. How does she manage?” the actress said.
