Anurag Kashyap’s post for Sandeep Reddy Vanga draws flak from Avinash Tiwary, Neeraj Ghaywan and Varun Grover

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently heaped immense praise on Sandeep Reddy Vanga and his film Animal. Kashyap shared a post with the director calling him a ‘misunderstood, judged and reviled’ filmmaker. Further, he labelled Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, the biggest game changer, prompting reactions from actor Avinash Tiwary, director Neeraj Ghaywan, and writer Varun Grover. Avinash, Neeraj, and Varun reacted to the critically acclaimed director’s post and expressed their dismay.

Laila Majnu actor Avinash Tiwary reacted to Anurag Kashyap’s post saying that he does not agree with the fact that Vanga is misunderstood or reviled. He even wrote that the filmmaker has successfully been able to generate a great response which he believes is unfortunate for the ‘naïve audience’. Emphasising the need for a better audience, “Judged, honest and lovely human being maybe but misunderstood and reviled am not sure. I think he is fairly successful in the kind of response he has been able to generate. Great for an Artist but Extremely Unfortunate for the naive audience. We need good Artists but we need a better audience and that includes all of us.”

Meanwhile, Neeraj Ghaywan and Varun Grover also disliked the director Anurag’s support for Vanga. Neeraj, on Anurag’s post showing his support for the director, commented, “Cringe!” Neeraj co-directed the second season of Sacred Games with Anurag Kashyap. At the same time, Varun Grover also commented on the filmmaker’s post and wrote, “No.”

Coming back to Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the director is being criticised for portraying a misogynistic approach and showcasing gore violence in his film Animal. The film starring Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Triptii Dimri, hit the theatres on December 1, 2023.

The film shattered multiple box office records and emerged as the third highest-grossing Indian film of 2023. Helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the movie is produced under the banner of Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar’s T-Series, Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios and Pranay Reddy Vanga’s Bhadrakali Pictures.
