Imphal: All educational institutions, including schools and colleges, will remain closed in Manipur on May 6 and May 7 due to intense rainfall in the region, informed Chief Minister N Biren Singh. “All schools and colleges will remain closed on 6th May and 7th May, 2024 due to the prevailing weather conditions in the state. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure against the risks posed by the current weather conditions,” the Chief Minister said in a post on X.

The State Government has taken decision as a precautionary measure against the risks posed by the extreme weather conditions.

“I urge all to stay updated and remain safe indoors. The state government is taking all necessary measures to protect lives & properties and assist those who have been affected,” he added.

Manipur Hit By Heavy Rain And Hailstorm

Several parts of Manipur hit by heavy rainfall and hailstorms on Sunday. The rainfall and hailstorms were so intense that it damaged houses and vehicles, officials said.

Canchipur and Tera in Imphal were most affected by the hailstorms. Strong winds blew away hutments in several areas and damages several houses.

The Manipur Government extended support and immediate assistance to the victims. Helpline numbers have also been issued in view of the extreme weather condition.
