A tremendous explosion that reverberated throughout Melbourne’s north on Wednesday night is shrouded in mystery.
CCTV footage showing a flash of light and a bang-like sound was shared on social media by a Doreen resident who heard the sound at 9 o’clock at night while getting out of his car.
Residents are looking for information on what has been described as a “massive explosion” on social media, with others believing that it was caused by a meteorite.
That was fucking loud, our whole house shook. Someone posted this on a local page, maybe a meteorite? ♂️ pic.twitter.com/FakoRqxL7d

One Mernda-area user said, “Ok, massive explosion wasn’t how I expected tonight to go.” “What on earth was that?”
Another user retorted, assuming that the roadworks were the source of the “loud af” sound.
It is unknown where this music and light originated.
Astronomer Dr. Brad Tucker of the Australian National University told 3AW that the “flash associated with this boom” suggests that a meteor is most likely the source.
According to Tucker, there was a possibility that an astroid broke off, traveled through space, and collided with Earth’s atmosphere.
