Canada: Police launch probe after attack on Jewish schools in Montreal

Bullets struck two Jewish schools in Montreal, Canada, overnight, according to a report from CTV News, which cited Montreal police.

The incident took place in the borough of Cote-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grace in Montreal.

At 8:20 a.m. (local time) on Thursday, a member of United Talmud Torahs of Montreal Inc. discovered a bullet hole in a school door and reported the first incident to the police.

According to CTV News, the facility at Saint-Kevin and Victoria avenues houses both an elementary and a high school.

Thirty minutes later, a 911 call was made regarding a bullet hole discovered in the door of the Jewish nursery Yeshiva Gedola, which is located close to the intersection of Vimy Avenue and Deacon Road.

When the police arrived at both locations, they reported that no injuries had been reported and the schools were empty.

The case is now being looked into by the police. But according to CTV News, no arrests have been made as of yet.
Notably, in light of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, tensions within Montreal’s cultural communities have recently increased.

Police were called to Concordia University in downtown Montreal on Wednesday afternoon following a violent altercation between students. According to the university, pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel students were present during the incident.

The police detained a student, age 22, on suspicion of assault. It stated that the incident resulted in minor injuries to one student and two security guards.
