Chris Jordan Scripts History For England Cricket, Becomes First Englishman To Take T20I Hat-Trick

New Delhi: England pacer Chris Jordan became only the second bowler to take four wickets in an over in a T20 World Cup match which included a hat-trick on Sunday against United States. USA were 115/6 at the start of 18th over when Jordan came on to bowl his third over. He started by removing Corey Anderson on the first ball before getting the wickets of Ali Khan, Nosthush Kenjige and Saurabh Netravalkar to register his maiden T20 World Cup hat-trick. It was also the third hat-trick in the ongoing edition. Earlier on Sunday, Australian pacer Pat Cummins became the first player to claim two back-to-back hat-tricks in T20 World Cups.

Before Jordan, Ireland’s Curtis Campher had the record of taking four wickets in an over in a T20 World Cup match when he achieved the feat against Netherlands in the 2021 edition in Abu Dhabi. Jordan also became the first English pacer to claim a T20I hat-trick The ongoing tournament is also the second edition where three hat-tricks have been registered since the 2021 season.

Meanwhile, England became the first team to qualify for the semifinals as they overhauled USA’s 115 all out in just 9.4 overs with all 10 wickets in hand. Chasing a below-par total, Jos Buttler scored 38-ball unbeaten 83 to see his team home. England’s win meant South Africa and West Indies will fight for the second spot from the group to advance to the last four.

For West Indies to surpass England’s net run rate, the Rovman Powell-led side need to win by 49-plus runs against South Africa (after scoring 160 batting first) to move into semifinals. USA are officially eliminated from the T20 World Cup. Buttler smashed six fours and seven sixes, five of them coming against left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh in the ninth over.
