Disneyland Hosting Special Event That Makes a Political Statement

Disney makes its beliefs loud and clear amid a political dispute.

It's not a secret that Walt Disney DIS has been pushing back against Florida's right-wing Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. DeSantis has been pushing against LGBTQ communities and their rights. Disney recently made headlines by going against the state’s governor and made the public cry out and cheer when Disney announced it would be hosting a major LGBTQIA+ conference.

The conference is for the Out & Equal Workplace Summit, which has the title of the “largest LGBTQIA+ conference in the world.” The conference has an attendance of over 5,000 guests according to The Guardian. The Out and Equal Workplace Summit is set to take place at the Disney World Resort September 2023. The Summit has been around for more than two decades, and it is hosted to allow people to come together to find ways to be inclusive and promote equality among LGBTQIA+ individuals. The acronym represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and more.

DeSantis' new law is the root of the dispute between the state’s largest employer, Disney, and the Republican views DeSantis pushing for. The bill is labeled as the “Don’t Say Gay Bill” limits the ability of educators to speak to children about gender identity and or sexual orientation.

Disney Pushes Forward Amid DeSantis Dispute

Walt Disney Co. is making a statement from one end of the country to the other. Disney World recently added an event to its calendar to host the largest LGBTQIA+ conference later this year, and now Disneyland is going all out and will actually run a two-night event in support of the LGBTQIA+ communities and individuals.

Disney hosts After Dark celebrations and this time it is celebrating Pride Month in June. The Pride Nites at Disneyland will be June 13 and June 15. This is the first time Disney is hosting an official Pride Nite. Tickets will go on sale April 20 to the public, and Magic Keyholders will be able to purchase tickets in advance before the tickets are available to the general public on April 18, according to Disneyland’s website. Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite tickets will be $139. Individuals may purchase up to eight tickets.

Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nites will not only allow Pride Nite guests to enjoy the attractions after many have left the park, but there will also be dance parties around the park, including an Ohana Dance Party at Tomorrowland Terrace, Pride Nite Dance Club along the Rivers of America, and the Golden Horseshoe will have country line dancing. Pride Nites will also include a Pride Nite Cavalcade featuring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Clarabelle, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy all dressed in Pride Nite attire.

As is with any major event at Disneyland, there will be special food and drinks available, and with admission there will be unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads to capture what's sure to be an iconic night of photo ops.

Disney First Ever Pride Night

Theme park reservations are not required to attend, however only a limited number of tickets are available to the public. Disney After Dark events include Disneyland admission starting at 6 p.m. or up to three hours before the event starts at 9 p.m. The event ends at 1 a.m. Parking fees are not included.

As this may be a very popular event, given that these are Disneyland’s first ever official Pride Nites. Many have already commented on Disney Parks Blog regarding the Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nites and the support is overwhelming.
