In the ongoing World Cup so far, Virat Kohli has scored 543 runs from eight matches, with two centuries to his name in this tournament. Kohli is in second place in the top run-getters’ list, behind South Africa’s Quinton de Kock (550 runs).

Throughout his international career, Kohli has gone onto become a synonymous name with making and breaking several records across formats.

With the Delhi cricketer adding another feather to his cap, let’s look at some records that Kohli has achieved along the way:

—During the ongoing World Cup, Virat Kohli broke another record of Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli has now gone onto score 1000-plus runs in a calendar year for eight years, while Tendulkar had only done so in seven years. So far, Kohli has scored 1000-plus runs in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2023 whereas Tendulkar did so in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2007.

—Virat Kohli is the joint-fifth fastest batter to score 5000 runs in Tests, having taken 138 innings to do so. Only Steve Smith, Walter Hammond, Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar have done so in even quicker time.

—Virat Kohli is also the fastest to 13,000 runs in ODIs, having done so in 267 innings. Sachin Tendulkar had taken 321 innings to get to the milestone.

—Virat Kohli took only 96 innings to get to 3500 runs in T20Is, becoming the quickest batter to the milestone. Martin Guptill (118 innings) and Rohit Sharma (126) has done so in more innings than Kohli.

—Virat Kohli ranks fourth in the most number of fifties in international cricket. Kohli has 215 scores of 50-plus, only behind Sachin Tendulkar (264), Ricky Ponting (217) and Kumar Sangakkara (216).

—Virat Kohli also has the third highest batting average in ODIs. Kohli has an average of 58.58 in ODIs, only behind Ryan Ten Doeschate (67) and Shubman Gill (61.02).

—When he scored 115 and 141 against Australia during the Adelaide Test in 2014, Kohli joined an elite list of cricketers having scored a century in each innings of a Test math. This list includes prominent figures like Sunil Gavaskar, Kumar Sangakkara, Misbah Ul Haq and Rahul Dravid.
