'Fighter': Legal notice against Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone's film for their kissing scene

Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s film Fighter has had a topsy-turvy journey at the box-office ever since its release. And now, the film has landed (no puns here) in a legal soup. A legal notice has been sent to the makers for a kissing scene between the leads while they are wearing the air-force uniform.

The notice has been served by Indian Air Force, Wing Commander Saumya Deep Das, who says the uniform isn’t a mere piece of clothing, and has raised objections against the film. The notice says- ‘IAF uniform is not merely a piece of clothing, it is a powerful symbol of unwavering commitment to duty, national security and selfless service.’

What the notice exactly read

It read, ”It embodies the highest ideals of sacrifice, discipline, and unwavering dedication to protecting our nation. By utilizing this sacred symbol for a scene promoting personal romantic entanglements, the film grossly misrepresents its inherent dignity and devalues the profound sacrifices made by countless officers in service of our nation.”

It added, “Moreover, it normalies inappropriate behaviour in uniform, setting a dangerous precedent that undermines the moral and ethical standards expected from those entrusted with safeguarding our borders. Kissing in uniform, on a runway which comes under the purview of a technical area, while portrayed as romantic, is considered grossly inappropriate and unbecoming of an IAF officer, as it contradicts the high standards of discipline and decorum expected from them.”

At a time when Hrithik Roshan remains on cloud nine considering the kind of feedback that he has received, he is also no stranger to the bit of criticism that the film has faced. Notably, Fighter has been called out by a section of unhappy fans who have shown an issue with its “anti-Pakistan” dialogues and sentiments.

Amid the strong criticism that the film has received around its dialogues, Hrithik Roshan has finally shared this reaction. While he completely dissociated himself from the dialogues, he further credited director Siddharth Anand for the same.

Hrithik Roshan reacts to criticism over Fighter’s dialogues

In a conversation with Film Companion, Hrithik while asserting that his audience does not need such dialogues to understand the motion of the film said, “I would like to believe that my fans and my audience are a bit more evolved and they don’t like lines like this.”

Noting that he does not believe in “crossing the line” and “interfering with the director’s vision”, the actor explained why he did not object to Siddharth Anand putting dialogues like India occupied Pakistan in the film. “He is a very head-strong filmmaker. It’s his conviction and when you see someone is convinced it kind of breaks your heart to say no which I don’t do. But I also bear the weight of that because it’s finally my face,” he concluded.
