Five of the Best #DeSaster Tweets

Presidential wannabe Ron DeSantis discovered just how cruel the world can be Wednesday after his attempt a cutting-edge campaign announcement on Twitter spaces with Elon Musk failed spectacularly.

Denizens of the social media app were quick to post dozens of putdowns of DeSantis, who spoke, after many minutes of silence, with Twitter CEO Elon Musk.

Whatever the message was supposed to be was drowned out by the silence and subsequent gleeful mocking of the Florida governor.

Some of the video commentaries even appeared to employ the  latest in AI technology.

Here’s a selection of some of the most cutting takes on DeSantis, whose political comeuppance appears to be the worst self-inflicted wound by a presidential candidate since Howard Dean's scream.

The lobby card take on the event as a space epic.

A second lobby card effort with more of a romcom feel to it:

An abbreviated Gone With The Wind with DeSantis in the staring role, awesome, if scary, video effects, and a pretty clear explanation of why DeSantis hates drag shows so much.

Then there’s the Kim Kardashian “break the Internet" take. But since that would run afoul of Florida's delicate sensibilities, we'll just direct you to Project Lincoln's feed @ProjectLincoln.

Donald Trump was, of course, gleeful in his reaction as well. But as it was on Truth Social -- and pretty unfunny -- we won't trouble you with it here.  Instead we offer the following video -- made by an apparent Trump supporter -- featuring DeSantis reimagining the dancing skills of Pee Wee Herman.

President Biden even took the opportunity to steal a page from Trump to fund raise off DeSantis' botched launch.

The technical issues certainly reflect poorly on Musk and his stewardship of Twitter since he completed his acquisition of the social media platform last fall and fired two thirds of the employees.

But he at least has a history of blowing things up and then rebounding. For instance, there was that time he demonstrated the Cybertruck's unbreakable windows, only to have one shatter on stage. More recently, Musk's super-dooper rocket that he says will take humans to Mars exploded spectacularly just moments after lifting off from his Texas Starbase in April. But SpaceX continues to launch Starlink satellites by the score with its smaller reusable rockets.

And once the new Twitter CEO takes over in a few weeks, it'll all be her problem anyway.
