Ford, Lincoln Recall Over 1.2 Million Cars

Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans have an issue that affects their brakes.

Ford  (F) - Get Free Report is recalling nearly 1.3 million Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans due to brake fluid leaks from a ruptured hose, federal safety officials said.

The recalled vehicles, which are from the 2013 through 2018 model years, have front brake jounce hoses that can rupture prematurely and cause the brake fluid to leak over time, according to a filing with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Ford said it was aware of one crash but no injuries related to this recall.

"A ruptured front brake jounce hose will cause a progressive brake fluid leak," the filing said. "The driver may experience an increase in pedal travel together with a reduction in the rate of deceleration increasing the risk of a crash."

The affected vehicles are equipped with non-hybrid engines and suspect front brake jounce hoses. The subject causes were introduced into Ford Fusion production on February 3, 2012 and were taken out of production on July 19, 2017.

Dealers were notified on March 13 and notification letters are expected to be sent out between April 17 and April 28.

Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to replace the front brake jounce hoses with the new hoses that have revised braid material. There will be no charge for this service

In 2020, Ford recall 488,594 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX SUVs due to concerns to a similar problem, according to Consumer Reports.

The auto company has been making the Ford Focus since 1998. Ford said last year that it would discontinue the Focus by 2025 as part of a shift toward crossover vehicles and electrification.
