Gautam Gambhir to be INTERVIEWED For Team India Head Coach Job TODAY

Mumbai: Former opener Gautam Gambhir would be interviewed for the job of Team India’s head coach. He is the sole candidate who would be interviewed for the job, which in other terms means that he is almost a certainty. As per Indian Express, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will conduct the interview over a Zoom call. Rahul Dravid, who is the current coach of the side, is set to step down after the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
“Neither I nor the BCCI have approached any former Australian cricketer with a coaching offer,” stated BCCI secretary Jay Shah. “The reports circulating in certain media sections are completely incorrect. Finding the right coach for our national team is a meticulous and thorough process. We are focused on identifying individuals who possess a deep understanding of the Indian cricket structure and have risen through the ranks.”
In case Gambhir becomes India’s new head coach, his tenure will begin in July 2024 and extend until December 31, 2027, encompassing the next ODI World Cup. The panel that interviews Gambhir would feature Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, Sulakshana Naik.
For the unknown, although didn’t have a proper coaching experience, he has two back-to-back playoffs entry in IPL and a champions title, all as a mentor. Post retirement, Gambhir returned to the cricketing field when he became the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants in 2022. He guided LSG to playoffs qualification in 2022 and 2023 before winning the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders last month.
Earlier, Gambhir broke his silence on becoming India’s head coach. “I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well,” Gambhir told PTI.
