IMD Weather Update: Several parts of India are dealing with severe heatwave conditions. Delhi’s Mungeshpur logged a daytime temperature of 52.9 degrees Celsius, prompting the India Meteorological Department to examine the sensors for errors. The Safdarjung Observatory recorded a daytime temperature of 46.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, the highest in 79 years. The previous record was 46.7 degrees Celsius in June 1945.

Not only Delhi but almost entire northern India is reeling under the intense heatwave conditions with temperatures hovering close to 50 degrees Celsius.

In Uttarakhand’s Dehradun recorded its highest-ever temperature with mercury raised to 43.1 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

During the blistering summer heat in Delhi, Wednesday afternoon witnessed a record-breaking surge in power demand, hitting a staggering 8,302 MW. According to information from the State Load Dispatch Centre, Delhi’s peak power consumption soared to 8,302 MW at exactly half past three in the afternoon.

Rajasthan is still feeling the burn, even though there’s been a tiny dip in the top temperatures. Pilani, a town in Rajasthan, baked under a broiling 48.2 Celsius. Not too far behind was Churu, enduring a scorching day of 47.7 degrees Celsius.

Given the scorching heatwave engulfing Bihar, a surprising announcement popped up. The authorities decided to slam the doors of both private and public schools, along with coaching institutes and early childhood centres, till at least June 8. These extreme steps were taken once instances of kids collapsing under the blistering sun, with mercury levels skyrocketing beyond 44 degrees Celsius came to light.

Jharkhand felt the wrath of a scorching heatwave that persisted this past Wednesday, with the mercury soaring to a staggering 48 degrees Celsius in Garhwa district. A stern orange alert had been broadcasted in anticipation of this unbearable heatwave set to hit Palamu, Garhwa, and Chatra on May 30. On a similar note, a milder yellow alert was raised for 15 districts scattered in the west, south, and central areas of the state.
