IND vs NZ 2nd T20I Highlights: India win by 6 wickets, level the series 1-1

23:12 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

So after a nerve-wreacking clash, India have levelled the series and the third match will have a lot more than just consolation or pride to play for. The series is on line, well and truly alive! That's it from our live coverage! See you again on Wednesday. Untill then, have a good night!

23:09 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Hardik Pandya: I always believed that we'll be able to finish the game, but it went quite late. All these games are important with the moments. You don't need to panic because it was about rotating the strike rather than taking the pressure. We followed our basics.

To be honest, it was a shocker of a wicket. Both the games we have played on so far. I don't mind difficult wickets. I am all up for that, but these two wickets were not made for T20. Somewhere down the line the curators or the grounds that we are going to play in should make sure they prepare the pitches earlier. Other than that, happy.

Even 120 would have been a winning total. Bowlers - they stuck to their plans and ensured they did not rotate the strike. We kept rotating the spinners. Dew didn't play much part in this. They were able to spin the ball more than us. It was carrying through well.

23:06 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner: It was a great game of cricket. To get it so close was great effort from the bowlers. If we'd got an extra 10 or 15, could have been the difference. The calmness of Surya and Hardik to get them over the line was pretty good. We bowled 16 or 17 (17) overs of spin, definitely something different. With the bounce out there, it looked challenging. You are not sure what a good total is. 120 might have been a good score. Rotation of the strike might have been the difference.

22:44 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Washington Sundar: All of us were on our toes. I am sure everyone watching would have been on their toes. This has been very very exciting. Two-three games like this out of every 10-11 games would be amazing. That kind of misjudgment happens in such pressurizing matches (on the mix-up with SKY). It was very important for Surya to stay till the end that's why I sacrificed my wicket.

22:36 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

India have finally chased down a poultry 100-run target! But mind it that was no poultry total considering the surface and the manner in which New Zealand bowled made it even more thought to reach the target. The bowling cards of both sides have looked like a batting card today as 30 of the 40 overs were bowled by spinners. The series is now levelled 1-1 and Ahmedabad will have a game to savour as both sides will play to end on a winning note and also lift the trophy.

22:30 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

19.5 Finally a boundary! Short and SKY flat bats it over mid-off. The ball meets the boundary cushion and SKY has a boundary to his name. Imagine a match where Suryakumar Yadav played 31 balls and hit only one boundary! Such has been the contest tonight, and and excellent game of cricket despite of it being low scoring!

India win by 6 wickets

22:28 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

19.4 Hardik Pandya plays towards mid on and they take a quick single. A direct hit would have been a wicket.

India need 3 runs off 2 balls

22:27 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

19.3 Tickner has dropped SKY in his follow-through. He smashes it straight and the ball goes straight into Tickner's hands but pops out as fast as it went. Tickner cannot believe!

India need 4 off 3 balls

22:25 (IST)

19.2 That's a dot ball! 5 needed of 4 balls now.

22:24 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

19.1 Short, wide of off and Hardik gets and edge that seemed to race away to boundary, but the third man was too fine and cuts it down. Just a single.

22:23 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Blair Tickner to bowl the final over

22:22 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

18.5 Finally a boundary! Hardik Pandya flicks it square on the leg side and the ball has finally seen the fence! Welcome boundary for India and they shall breathe easy now. A boundary after 45 balls for India

India 94/4 after 19 overs

22:20 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

This is excellent stuff from Ferguson! Just two runs from the first four deliveries as SKY and Pandya try to go after the pacer. The pressure surely mounting on Indian batters now!

22:18 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

A cross-group meeting between Mitchell Santner, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, and Daryl Mitchell and the speedster is finally into attack!

22:17 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Hardik is fist-pumping a single! Five runs from Santner's last over!

India 87/4 after 18 overs

22:15 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

India still ahead in this game but will not want to take any risks. A run-a-ball is required to level the series and these two should not look for a glory hit here. Three runs in the first three balls of the 18th over.

22:14 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Chapman gives away five runs in that over. LAst boundary came at the start of the 12th over when Glenn Phillips bowled a full toss to Washington Sundar. No sixes in this match so far!

India 82/4 after 17 overs

22:11 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

A decent over from Ish Sodhi! Just four runs from it. India need 23 from 4 overs. And an interesting move from Mitchell Santner, Mark Chapman now getting into attack! No signs of Lockie Ferguson so far. Such has been the surface tonight!

India 77/4 after 16 overs

22:05 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Washington Sundar had clearly denied for a single there and wasn't confused about it a bit, but SKY wanted him to run anyways. India can only hope that runout doesn't hurt them badly.

22:03 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

14.3 Washington Sundar has sacrificed himself! Poor stuff from Suryakumar Yadav.  Tried a reverse sweep, the ball just went a few yards away from him but he set off for a single. Sundar denied but SKY kept running and the former sacrificed himself at the end as Finn Allen ran across to take the bails off himself. Washington Sundar run out (Finn Allen) 10(9)

22:00 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

13.6 Suryakumar Yadav takes the aerial route and was almost gone! Plays in his favourite area - the one towards fine leg. But the ball lands between the square leg and fine leg fielder in the deep. Glenn Phillips went for it but couldn't reach the ball. Another tidy over for New Zealand!

India 71/3 after 14 overs

21:53 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Suryakumar Yadav is freeing his arms but hasn't got a boundary as yet. India just cannot get that over that can seal the game for them. 34 runs are needed from last 7 overs now.

India 66/3 after 13 overs

21:47 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

11.1 A bad full toss from Glenn Phillips, completely outside the leg stump. Sundar sits on his knees and sweeps it away for four runs. Had the fine leg inside the circle been a little bit squarer, Sundar would be walking back to the pavilion. But he is safe.

21:44 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

10.4 End of Rahul Tripathi. He couldn't stay calm for long. On a good length from Ish Sodhi and spinning away from the batter, he sits on his knees and tries to sweep it anyways. The ball gets the top edge and Glenn Phillips takes a good catch at deep mid-wicket. Rahul Tripathi c Glenn Phillips b Ish Sodhi 13(18)

India 51/3 after 11 overs

21:38 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

India go into drinks break at 49/2 after 10 overs. The Kiwi bowlers have kept things tight and even if India chase this down, its not going to be easy to reach the target!

21:32 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

8.5 Ishan Kishan is gone, gone by a whisker! He nudged it on the leg side and the batters completed the first run quite quickly, wanted the second run but Tripathi sends him back after a bit of hesitation. Kishan runs back to make ground but his bat is on the crease as Mitchell Santner breaks the stumps! Ishan Kishan (runout Glenn Phillips) 19(32)

21:29 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

8.1 Excellent shot by Ishan Kishan, cut through the covers region but Lockie Ferguson covers a good distance in the deep to stop the boundary! Kishan will get two runs on that ball.

21:24 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

7.1 Ish Sodhi bowls full to start his spell and Rahul Tripathi has smashed it straight over the bowler's head for a boundary! Not allowing the bowler to settle.

21:23 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

6.6 The last ball spoils the over. Drifting down the leg side, Kishan gets a glove on it while trying to sweep and the ball goes past wicketkeeper's right shoe to the fence for four runs.

India 34/1 after 7 overs

21:21 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Glenn Phillips is into the attack and has foxed Ishan Kishan with mighty huge spin!

21:18 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

5.5 Excellent shot by Ishan Kishan! Bracewell bowl wide on the off side and Kishan cuts it square for four runs!

India 29/1 after 6 overs

21:17 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

5.2 A mixup between Ishan Kishan and Rahul Tripathi creates a runout chance but Finn Allen throws it way too wide of the wicketkeeper. The batters finally get a chance to steal a single.

21:11 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

3.5 Shubman Gill has gone! Tries to pull a short delivery but the ball spins too much to trouble the batter, he gets an upper edge on that pull and the ball flies away to deep square leg fielder. Shubman Gill c Finn Allen b Michael Bracewell 11(9)

21:08 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

2.6 A TV review asked for by the on-field umpire owing to a stumping chance but Gill is safe.

India 16/0 after 3 overs

21:06 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

2.4 A little bit of width offered by Santner and Shubman Gill has cut through point region. He is looking the best batter on this surface.

21:00 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Michael Bracewell is straight away amidst action. He is getting sharp turn there. A slip in place for him as well.

20:59 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

0.6 Now Shubman Gill gets a boundary! Pulls it away towards square-leg region and the ball races away to the cushion.

India 8/0 after 1 over

20:57 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

0.2 No spinners or Lockie Ferguson, Jacob Duffy has started the proceedings! Shubman Gill drives it beautifully through the covers, but is stopped with a diving effort near the boundary. Not before Chapman hurting his knee as it gets stuck while diving.

20:55 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

New Zealand fielders have had an intense discussion in the customary huddle. Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan are out in the middle too. New Zealand have good spinners - three in their lineup. Lockie Ferguson is also a dangerous bowler in this format. Can they make any early inroads or the Men-in-Blue will cruise away?

20:50 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Indian spinners have been brilliant today and so have the Indian seamers! The spinners already spun a web around the Kiwi batters and put them in a helpless position before Hardik Pandya came into the attack and also brought Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Mavi along with him. Arshdeep, who was smacked to all parts of the ground gave away just 7 runs in two overs and scalped two wickets as well! India will need only 100 runs to win the match and level the series. Stay tuned, as the chase starts soon.

20:44 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Just a single, that too of a leg bye, to end the over! Excellent stuff by India! They have restricted New Zealand to 99!

20:43 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Three dot balls now after two doubles in the over! Arshdeep Singh has done an excellent job to stop the tail from wagging! New Zealand stuck on 98.

20:41 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Good running by the New Zealand batters in the final over. Have ran two on the first two deliveries of the over!

20:38 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

One of the expensive overs of this innings, with a boundary! Would have been considered a very tidy over on most of the occasions in a T20I. A couple of wides as well in that over taking it to 11 runs from that over.

New Zealand 94/8 after 19 overs

20:34 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

18.2 Shivam Mavi tries the short ball ploy too, but gives away four runs. Jacob Duffy timed it well and the ball goes over deep mid-wicket for four runs!
A boundary after 28 deliveries for the Kiwis!

20:33 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

17.6 Another wicket goes down of another short ball! Lockie Ferguson the man to be dismissed this time. Gets his gloves on that surprise short ball and it flies to area between the wicketkeeper and short third man. Ishan Kishan and Washington Sundar both run for it, but Sundar reaches first to take it. Lockie Ferguson c Washington Sundar b Arshdeep Singh 0(2)

New Zealand: 83/8 after 18 overs

20:29 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

17.4 Easy pickings for India! Short ball from Arshdeep, that proves to be too much Ish Sodhi - tries to pull it and could hit it only as far as the mid on fielder. Hardik Pandya takes an easy catch, returns the favour to his fast bowler. Ish Sodhi c Hardik Pandya b Arshdeep Singh 1(2)

20:26 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

Arshdeep Singh finally into the attack in 18th over!

20:25 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

16.6 That's a very good catch from Arshdeep Singh! Right on the boundary line at fine leg. A short delivery from Hardik and Bracewell gets a top edge as he tries to hook it. Arshdeep had to move a few steps to his left to catch that, and he does it well but loses balance to step on the wrong side of boundary. However, he makes sure to throw the ball in the air and catch it back after coming in. Michael Bracewell c Arshdeep Singh b Hardik Pandya 14(22)

New Zealand 80/6 after 17 overs

20:08 (IST)

IND vs NZ LIVE:

13.3 Pitched up and Mitchell Santner drives it through the covers! Excellent timing on that occasion and that shall break the shackles for Kiwis.

New Zealand 67/5 after 14 overs

India will face New Zealand in the second T20I of the series and will look to defend their enviable home turf record as the Kiwis dare to snatch an elusive victory on Indian soil.

While T20Is are not supposed to offer too much consequence this year, they are surely here for the entertainment of the fans.

It will be interesting to see how India make a comeback after losing the first match and whether will they only change their strategy or will also change their personnel. Is it the right time to hand Prithvi Shaw another international cap? Or will it be too early to break faith in Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill?

The Indian top order failed miserably and seems too heavily dependent on Suryakumar Yadav. If not for Washington Sundar, they were staring at a humiliating defeat.

The fast bowlers as well have looked wayward as Umran Malik’s line and length does not complement his speed and Arshdeep Singh seems to have a tendency of being inconsistent.

New Zealand, for the first time on this tour, will feel stronger and motivated enough as they have a real chance to crush Indians.

Their batters attacked the Indian bowlers tirelessly and posted a very good total. The bowlers then came to the fore and restricted Indian batters well within the target. The spinners too managed to turn the ball square, though they themselves were surprised.

The temperature in Lucknow is expected to be on the cooler side – India is enjoying winter! Both the teams are expected to play an unchanged XI, unless Prithvi Shaw sees the light of the day.
