LUNCH ON DAY 3 — Ashwin strikes in the final over of the morning session, with Kagiso Rabada joining Marco Jansen at the centre and getting off the mark with a single in the penultimate delivery. Jansen blocks the final delivery as South Africa head to the interval with 392 on the board and three wickets (assuming Bavuma walks out to bat) in hand, stretching their lead to 147 already!

Top session for the Proteas, in which they ended up collecting 136 runs for the loss of just two wickets. Turned out to be as productive as the extended post-lunch session for the second day. “I don’t think I wanted to prove any point. Just that I wanted to go out with a bang as that is (the) standard I set for myself as there’s no looking back now,” Elgar said after his 14th hundred.

“It was quite a good wicket to bat on. Had there been more sun, it would have been tougher. It’s just that it’s been my way. Could have been another batter another day.”
