India win Asia Cup for eighth time after destroying Sri Lanka in final
India were crowned Asia Cup champions for an eighth time after crushing Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final in Colombo on Sunday, 17 September. AP
Sri Lanka won the toss and skipper Dasun Shanaka opted to bat in the Asia Cup final against India. AP
Jasprit Bumrah drew first blood for India by removing Kusal Perera in the very first over of the Sri Lanka innings. AP
It was all Mohammed Siraj from thereon though, as the Hyderabadi would turn the game on its head with a devastating new-ball spell. AP
Mohammed Siraj grabbed four wickets in his second over, removing Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka in successive balls, to break the backbone of the Sri Lankan batting order. AP
Siraj would then castle Dasun Shanaka and Kusal Mendis to take his wicket-tally to six in the Asia Cup final. AP
India vice-captain Hardik Pandya would polish off the tail, collecting 3/3 as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 50. AP
Rohit Sharma decided to send Ishan Kishan to open alongside Shubman Gill with India needing just 51 to win. AP
Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan chased down the target in just 6.1 overs as India pulled off its biggest-ever ODI victory in terms of balls remaining. AP
