Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) completed an incredible run-chase against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Eden Gardens on Monday to go above Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to fifth place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) standings.

The loss for PBKS meant that they stayed in seventh place with 10 points from 11 matches.

Having opted to bat first, Punjab Kings rode on Shikhar Dhawan’s 57 to post 179/7 from 20 overs. In reply, KKR skipper Nitish Rana scored a half-century, but it was eventually a 54-run stand for the fifth wicket between Andre Russell and Rinku Singh that sealed the win for KKR.

Earlier, Rana was involved in a fifty-run stand with Venkatesh Iyer for the third wicket.

Gujarat Titans (GT) lead the points table with 16 points from 11 matches, followed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in second place. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) complete the top four.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are the bottom two teams with eight points each.

List of Orange Cap and Purple Cap holders

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis on Saturday crossed the 500-run mark against DC with a knock of 45, to keep the Orange Cap. Du Plessis now has scored 511 runs from 10 matches. Sitting at the second position is RR’s Yashasvi Jaiswal with 477 runs while GT’s Shubman Gill moved to the third spot with an unbeaten 94 against LSG, taking his season tally to 469.

GT’s Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan and CSK’s Tushar Deshpande occupy the top three spots on the Purple Cap list with 19 wickets each, though Shami is the current owner of the Purple Cap thanks to his superior average and economy.
