IPL 2023 Points Table, Orange and Purple Cap list: LSG jump to second spot with commanding win over PBKS

LSG posted 257/5 on the board  — the highest of the season so far and their second-highest overall in the history of the tournament — after being invited to bat by the Punjab Kings, who were bowled out for 201 in the process.

Lucknow, in the process, went past defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to the second point and also received a big boost to their Net Run Rate (NRR).

All four teams currently occupying the playoff spots have 10 points each, with Rajasthan Royals having the best NRR of the lot to sit at the top.

The 56-run loss, meanwhile, was Punjab’s fourth of the season in eight games, and they currently find themselves tied on eight points with Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have played as many matches.

Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians are seventh and eighth respectively with six points each, though the latter have a game in hand. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals are ninth and 10th respectively with four points each, the latter having the worst NRR among all the teams.

Here’s a look at the updated IPL 2023 points table after RR vs CSK:

List of Orange Cap and Purple Cap holders

RCB’s Faf du Plessis became the first batter to cross the 400-run mark during his 39-ball 62 against RR. Sitting firmly as the highest scorer this season, RCB skipper has scored five half centuries to tally 422 runs. Du Plessis’ RCB teammate Virat Kohli brought up his fifth half-century of the season on Wednesday to go second with 333 runs. CSK’s Devon Conway, who managed just eight runs against RR, is third with 314 runs.

RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj retained the Purple Cap after GT spinner Rashid Khan had briefly owned it on Tuesday. Siraj finished with figures of 1/33 against KKR and took his tally to 14 wickets, same as Rashid Khan in second place. Punjab Kings’ Arshdeep Singh climbed to the third spot — also with 14 wickets — after dismissing Lucknow Super Giants’ Nicholas Pooran on Friday.
