The ‘Dhadak’ actor recalled being ‘sexualised’ by the media when she was just 12 or 13 years old.

Janhvi Kapoor Recalls Being ‘Sexualised’ by Media

Janhvi Kapoor talked candidly about being sexualized by the media in a recent interview with director Karan Johar, revealing that it is nothing new for her. She described how her pictures wound up on a pornographic website from an event she attended with her parents, Sridevi and Boney Kapoor. The first time I felt sexualised by the media, I think I was 12-13 years old. I went for an event with mom and dad and there were pictures of me online. Instagram and social media had just started to boom, and I found pictures of me in what seemed like a pornographic site, and boys in my school were like looking at it and laughing, ” she said.

Janhvi Kapoor added, “Again, I am saying this repeatedly because I think I am very apologetic about where I come from and I need to get over that. I am sure other people deal with it in a much more different sense but in a much more real and genuinely terrifying sense.”

Janhvi Kapoor on Nepotism And Being Judged For Dressing Style

Boney Kapoor’s daughter went on to say that although she has been navigating the continual objectification for a while, she still finds it strange. She also mentioned how she’s frequently called out for being a nepotistic child and that she needs people to see her for who she really is.

The actor also talked about how she was criticized for her style of clothing. Janhvi discussed how she is viewed by others and admitted that although she enjoys dressing in a specific way, people always criticize her decisions. “On one hand, I do like dressing a certain way and I have been brought up in a household where I don’t feel apologetic about it, where I don’t feel judged by it but I do understand that there is sentiment of a sort of character assassination that a girl faces when she dresses in a way that makes it seem like she is comfortable with her sexuality, ” Kapoor continued.

Janhvi Kapoor will be seen alongside Rajkummar Rao in ‘Mr & Mrs Mahi.’ The film will hit the big screens on May 31st.
