Mumbai Indians jumped one spot to eighth after collecting their second victory in as many games on Sunday. Five-time champions MI defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by five wickets with 14 balls to spare in the afternoon game of the Sunday double-header, going past Sunrisers Hyderabad on the points table in the process.

In the second game of the night on Sunday, skipper Sanju Samson (60) and Shimron Hetmyer (56*) scripted a three-wicket chase for Rajasthan Royals against defending champions Gujarat Titans. The victory in Ahmedabad took the Royals to top spot with eight points.

Mumbai are among five teams currently locked on four points each, with KKR still having the best NRR (0.320) of the lot that puts them at the fifth spot. Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, who lock horns at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday, sit at the sixth and seventh spots on the IPL respectively while the Sunrisers are ninth.

Delhi Capitals, who are being led by David Warner this season, remain at the bottom of the table having lost all five of their matches so far, the latest of which came at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday.

Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings occupy the top four spots on the IPL points table. The Royals occupy top spot with eight points, with the other three respective teams having won three games so far (Six points each)

List of Orange Cap and Purple Cap holders

KKR’s in-form batter Venkatesh Iyer (234) rose to the top of the IPL 2023 batting charts with a scintillating 104 off 51 balls against MI on Sunday that bagged him the Player of the Match award despite it coming in a losing cause. Iyer collected enough runs to go past Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan’s current run tally of 233 by just one run. Gujarat Titans Shubman Gill and Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner jointly occupy the third spot with 228 runs each in five outings.

Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, meanwhile, regained possession of the Purple Cap after it went into Lucknow Super Giants pacer Mark Wood’s possession for some time. Both Chahal and Wood have collected 11 wickets each though the spinner has the better economy (7.85) of the two. Gujarat Titans’ Rashid Khan is third on the list with 11 wickets as well.
