IPL 2023 Points Table, Orange and Purple Cap list: PBKS jump to 2nd spot after defeating RR

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is the 16th edition of the cash-rich league and kicked off with a blockbuster contest between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium on 31 March. Gujarat Titans, led by Hardik Pandya, are the defending champions, having won the coveted trophy in their debut season. GT will be aiming to defend their title but are set to face a stiff challenge from all other nine teams.

CSK are four-time winners and with the league returning to a home-and-away format will have the cushion of playing seven home games at the Chepauk, which makes the MS Dhoni-led side a formidable challenger.

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians, captained by Rohit Sharma, will be looking to bounce back after two poor seasons where they failed to qualify for the playoffs. They finished last in the table in the 2022 season.

Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants did well last season, reaching the playoffs, but will be hoping to finish the 2023 season with the trophy. Another team that will be one of the favourites for the trophy is Rajasthan Royals. They reached the final last time and would aim to go one step better this time.

For the rest of the teams, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad, the first target will be to reach the playoffs.
