IPL 2023 Points Table, Orange and Purple Cap list: RR keep playoff hopes alive, knock PBKS out

Rajasthan Royals kept their 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign alive by the barest of margins following their four-wicket victory over Punjab Kings at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Friday.

The victory took Rajasthan Royals to 14 points, bringing them level with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI), with the Sanju Samson-led side dislodging Mumbai from the fifth spot to sit one place below Bangalore.

Both RCB and MI, however, have a game in hand and RR’s chances of featuring in the playoffs for a second season in a row hinge on how these two teams fare in their final fixtures over the weekend.

The defeat, however, signalled the end of the road for the Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings, who failed to reach the playoffs for a ninth season in a row since reaching the final in 2014. Punjab finish the season with six wins and eight defeats and are currently at the eighth spot, although their final position could change depending on how Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) fare in their final fixtures.

The stage, meanwhile, is set for one final double-header weekend in the 16th edition of the world’s biggest T20 league, with the final round of league fixtures set to decide the three teams that will join defending champions Gujarat Titans in the knockouts that take place next week.

While GT have already qualified with 18 points to their name, Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants sit at the second and third spots respectively with 15 points each while Bangalore lie at the fourth spot at the moment.
