Israel ups intensity of air strikes on Gaza

Israel intensified strikes on Gaza late Sunday evening in what appeared to be the groundwork for a potential invasion.

According to a Fox News correspondent, reporting from near the Gaza border, the Israeli air strikes focused particularly on an area in the northern part of the Palestinian exclave. Visuals shared on social media showed the dark sky over Gaza lit by the flares of Israeli air strikes.

The Israeli forces were attacking the areas near the border into Gaza, according to AlJazeera, which it claimed was their standard practice before land invasion.

Earlier in the evening Israel brought tanks near the border with heavy military movement. The Israeli settlements near the border were also evacuated.

Palestinian civilians from neighbourhoods along the border with Israel also evacuated after warnings from the Israeli military.

This comes after the Israeli security cabinet officially declared a state of war allowing the “taking of significant military steps.”

Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, which controls Gaza, Saturday morning launched a multi-pronged incursion into Israel — barging through the border fences, paragliding into Israeli communities, and speed boats trying to reach Israeli shores.

The surprise attacks killed hundreds of people and militants took many back to Gaza as hostages. According to the latest updates over 600 Israelis have been killed and over 1800 were injured, while over 100 were held captive by Hamas.

Israel responded to the attack by launching the ‘Swords of Iron’ operation. The Air Force has been targeting Hamas headquarters and installations in the densely populated Gaza Strip. So far, around 400 Palestinians have been killed and over 2000 injured.
