'It was a confusing phase': Divya Dutta recalls navigating her way in Bollywood back in the 90s

Establishing oneself in the entertainment industry especially when an outsider is not an ordinary task. Constant hassle, unwavering determination and sleepless nights, one needs to give their all to make it big in the industry. Divya Dutta, despite the obstacles, emerged as a remarkable actress and gave some memorable performances in multiple films released in the 90s. Recently, she recalled navigating her way in Bollywood and opened up about how she struggled to make a space for herself in the tinsel town.

While speaking to The Indian Express, Divya Dutta revealed her experiences during her initial days in Bollywood. She said, “It was a confusing phase in my career You really don’t know where you belong, I came from the outside. It is a trial and error, it actually doesn’t matter if you are from the inside or outside, everyone has their own journey. Somebody will have it easy, some difficult.”

She added, “When I came in, I was offered lots of multi-starrers. Back then I was called, ‘The girl who looks like Manisha Koirala’ and strangely that stopped and now I am asked, ‘Are you and Vidya Balan sisters?’ So, I don’t know if my face changed or theirs!”

Divya, speaking further, also revealed the times when she finally discovered what she actually wanted. The actress said that she enjoyed featuring in a Yash Chopra film (Veer Zara) as she loved dancing and wearing chiffon sarees but wanted something more which led her to perform in the drama like Train to Pakistan.

The Badlapur actress summed up her journey by saying that at the time when she was doing a Shyam Benegal film, she also had a Yash Chopra film in her kitty. Likewise, she was doing a Rituparna Ghosh film while working on a Rakesh Mehra film which balanced things for her.

Now, Divya Dutta is all set to be seen in the upcoming comedy, Aankh Micholi. Directed by Umesh Shukla, the film also features Paresh Rawal, Mrunal Thakur and Abhimanyu Dassani among others.
