It's 'Singham 3' vs 'Pushpa 2' at the box-office next year, here's why Ajay Devgn shouldn't postpone the release

If reports are to be believed, Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again and Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rule are likely to clash at the box-office on August 15 next year on the eve of Independence Day. There are further reports that state Devgn is likely to postpone the release; but here’s why he should stick to the same and bring the clash on.

The popularity of the franchise

The Singham franchise that began back in 2011 has a legitimate and lethal fan following among fans. Rohit Shetty created a character that continues to enjoy viewership on television and traction on social media. Devgn’s embodiment of the police officer provoked by the system, mauled by politics, and bruised by his own people, continues to live on. It’s still considered to be one of Shetty and Devgn’s most popular and successful outings. In 2014, the duo reunited for Singham Returns on Independence Day and took the biggest opening of all time by minting Rs 32 crore. All eyes on Singham Again now.

The cop universe

With Simmba that came out in 2018, Shetty did what many filmmakers began doing post his idea- creating a universe. Devgn’s cameo as Bajirao Singham to save the day for Sangram Bhalerao aka Simmba (played by Ranveer Singh) sent the crowd into a state of frenzy. It was the first step the filmmaker took before going ahead with Sooryavanshi, starring Akshay Kumar. There, we saw Kumar, Devgn, and Singh, all of them in the same frame.

The Devgn-Shetty combination

Right from the Golmaal franchise to All The Best to Bol Bachchan to the Singham series, their record at the box-office is enviable and impressive.

The universe expands

In Singham Again, Rohit Shetty brings along Kareena Kapoor Khan, and joining her and Ajay Devgn is Deepika Padukone, who’s reportedly playing the hero’s sister. Barring them, we are likely to see Simmba, Singham, and Sooryavanshi together again.

Ajay Devgn’s history of clashes

His first film Phool Aur Kaante clashed with the much more anticipated Lamhe, with the former emerging a surprise and colossal success. There have been many instances when the actor has clashed with films at the box-office and yet given a success; some of them being Suhaag (with Andaz Apna Apna), Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (with Angaaray), All The Best (with Blue and Main Aur Mrs Khanna), Golmaal 3 (with Action Replayy), Khakee (with Aetbaar).
