Janhvi Kapoor is occupied with the promotion of ‘Mr & Mrs Mahi,’ her forthcoming film. During an interview, the actor revealed how her perspective on life was altered and her religious beliefs strengthened by the unexpected death of her mother and actor Sridevi.

Janhvi Kapoor on Mother Sridevi’s Death

Speaking about her mother’s superstitious belief in an interview with ‘The Lallantop‘, Janhvi said, “She believed in things like, ‘certain activities should be done on specific dates,’ ‘don’t cut hair on Fridays as it will prevent Goddess Lakshmi from entering the house,’ and ‘avoid wearing black on Fridays.’ I never believed in such superstitions.”

“However, after she passed away, I started believing in them, maybe even too much. I don’t know if I was this religious and spiritually inclined when she was around. We all followed these practices because Mamma did. But following her demise, the relationship our culture and history have with Hinduism… I think I started taking refuge in our religion a lot more, ” she added.

Janhvi Kapoor’s mother Sridevi had an adoration for Lord Balaji of the Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh. She recalled, “She used to invoke his name all the time, ‘Narayan Narayan Narayan.’ She used to visit the temple every year on her birthday when she was working.” Kapoor disclosed that Sridevi stopped visiting temples after marriage. The ‘Dhadak’ actor decided to visit temples on her birthday each year following her mother’s demise. In addition to feeling emotional, Janhvi revealed feeling calm.

Meanwhile, Janhvi is Sridevi and filmmaker Boney Kapoor’s elder daughter. They also have another daughter Khushi, who made her debut with Zoya Akhtar’s ‘The Archies.’ The renowned actor from the 90s passed away in 2018 following an accidental drowning at a Dubai hotel. Janhvi made her debut with Shashan Khaitan’s ‘Dhadak‘ in 2019. The film also starred Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan. She is awaiting the release of romantic sports drama ‘Mr & Mrs Mahi‘ with actor Rajkummar Rao. The film will open in theatres on May 31, 2024
