Jordan’s King Abdullah slams Israel over ‘brutal’ war in Gaza

On Monday, King Abdullah of Jordan declared that Israel’s “brutal” attack in Gaza had left over 30,000 people—mostly women and children—dead or missing. He claimed that the fighting had also resulted in a generation of orphans.

Speaking at the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Rwanda, where the monarch discussed the “unspeakable crimes” that occurred during that African struggle, Abdullah stated that one should learn that Gaza’s security would never be guaranteed by Israel’s “indiscriminate aggression”. His words were broadcast on official media after the royal palace released a statement.

“More children have died in Gaza than in all other conflicts around the world this past year. Of those who have survived, many have lost one or both parents, an entire generation of orphans,” he said.

“How can indiscriminate aggression and shelling bring peace? How can they guarantee security, when they are build on hatred?,” Abdullah said of Israel’s war against the terrorist group Hamas.

The monarch was educated on the exhibits that recreated the tragedy of the 1994 killings before touring the Rwandan Genocide Memorial site and leaving remarks on a visitors’ list. Rwanda “teaches us we must fight the dehumanizing rhetoric that fuels conflict,” the speaker stated.

“Your story can be a beacon for us all – how the people of this country took action after this unspeakable crime of crimes, and worked towards reconciliation, to heal old wounds and prevent genocide from happening again,” he said in televised remarks.
