Julianna Margulies on her 'Black people were brainwashed to hate Jews' remark: 'Horrified that…'

American actress Julianna Margulies was under the ire of the Black and LGBTQIA+ communities after her recent controversial remark against them. On the The Back Room with Andy Ostroy podcast, she said how Black people were brainwashed to hate Jews and that a Black lesbian club at Columbia University put signs up saying “No Jews allowed.”

Actress apologises

After the backlash that followed, she issued a clarification and apology in a statement to Deadline. She said, “I am horrified by the fact that statements I made on a recent podcast offended the Black and LGBTQIA+ communities, communities I truly love and respect.”

She added, “I want to be 100% clear: Racism, homophobia, sexism, or any prejudice against anyone’s personal beliefs or identity are abhorrent to me, full stop. Throughout my career I have worked tirelessly to combat hate of all kind, end antisemitism, speak out against terrorist groups like Hamas, and forge a united front against discrimination. I did not intend for my words to sow further division, for which I am sincerely apologetic.”

Back in 2017, Julianna Margulies revealed that she was harassed by Steven Seagal and Harvey Weinstein in separate encounters during the 1990s. Recalling the ordeal with Seagal, in an interview on Sirius XM’s Just Jenny, Marguiles said that she was asked by a female casting agent to visit the Under Siege star on the pretext of discussing some scenes from the audition. After reaching the venue, the agent was nowhere to be found.

Margulies says, “I got to the hotel at 10.40 (pm), and she wasn’t there. And he was. Alone. And he made sure that I saw his gun, which I had never seen a gun in real life. And I got out of there unscathed … I don’t know how I got out of that hotel room. I sorta screamed my way out,” reported Vulture.
