Karan Johar announces maiden collaboration with Kartik Aaryan on actor's 33rd birthday after a fallout during Dostana 2
Karan Johar and Kartik Aaryan were set to collaborate for Dostana 2 back in 2019, a film that also starred Janhvi Kapoor and newcomer Laksshya. However, it was reported Johar and Aaryan had a fallout and the film has been indefinitely delayed. As the Pyaar Ka Punchnama star celebrates his 33rd birthday today, Johar has announced a new film with him that will be directed by The Night Manager fame Sandeep Modi.
The filmmaker wrote-“Kartik, happy birthday to you…may our collaboration only grow from strength to strength from hereon and never cease to create magic on the big screen.”
The film will release on August 15, 2025, is expected to be a war drama and is co-produced by Ektaa R Kapoor.

At the ongoing International Film Festival Of India in Goa, filmmaker Karan Johar and actress Sara Ali Khan launched the motion poster of their collaboration Ae Watan Mere Watan that will soon stream on Amazon Prime Video. While they did talk about the film, they didn’t forget to have fun either. Johar said it was his mission to get Sara married.
He said, “I hope you find green flag guys. I am manifesting it more than anything else.” The filmmaker continued, “I know people who have come and spoken about the potential of marriage and they got married. I think there is a bit of Sima Taparia in me. I am that Punjabi aunty who wants to get people together and Sara is my next mission.”
About the film
A thriller-drama inspired by true events,Ae Watan Mere Watan, is directed by Kannan Iyer and has been written by Darab Farooqui and Iyer. A Dharmatic Entertainment Production, the film is produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra. While the movie is scheduled to premiere early next year, Prime Video treated the audience at IFFI to an exclusive curtain-raiser, leading with a heart-rendering and immersive performance of the track ‘Qatra Qatra’ by Sukhwinder Singh at the opening ceremony attended by thousands of attendees.
