The 75-year-old Congress leader Siddaramaiah's stride appeared to have been injected with newfound vitality as he went to address a crowded news conference in Mysore on Saturday.
"This (election result in Karnataka) will be a stepping stone for Congress' victory in 2024," Siddaramaiah said, losing no time in sending the signal that he has set his sights set on the future.
In the run up to the elections, Siddaramaiah's appeal was sombre.

Nearly four hours into the counting of votes for the Karnataka assembly election, the Janata Dal (Secular), which was being touted as a possible kingmaker in the event of a hung verdict, ahead of the results, now appears to have taken a big hit in its vote share and it may turn out that the regional party manages to secure fewer seats than its 2018 count.
But, these are early trends and the scenario could well turn out to be a different one once the results are declared with the JD(S) score making a turnaround. It can once again be in a position to play kingmaker if the two arch rivals—the BJP and Congress — fall short of a majority and there is a hung verdict for the Karnataka assembly.

'There's no demand for me...', says JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy ahead of results
A day after JD(S) national spokesperson claimed that the party has already decided with whom they will form the government in the state as the exit polls predicted a hung Assembly, JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday said that no one has contacted his party for alliance and that there was no demand for him.
“No one has contacted me till now. There is no demand for me, I am a small party,” said JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy, ahead of Karnataka election results.

Congress won’t send MLAs to resort until results announced, says DK Shivakumar
Karnataka Congress DK Shivakumar said that the party will not be moving any of its MLAs to a resort until the election results are announced on Saturday.
The top leaders of the Congress held two crucial meetings on Thursday and Friday. After the meeting on Friday night, Shivakumar told media after attending the meeting that the party is not sending its MLAs to the resort but waiting for the results.

Karnataka Election Results 2023 LIVE: The counting of votes cast in the May 10 Karnataka legislature elections, which saw a bitter battle between archrivals BJP and Congress, will begin on Saturday, as parties including the JD(S) await the outcome with bated breath since a hung legislature is a possibility.
The election fates of major figures, including BJP Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Congress heavyweights Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, and JD(S)’ HD Kumaraswamy, will be revealed today.
The counting will begin at 8 am in 36 polling places around the state, and poll authorities anticipate that a clear picture of the outcome will emerge by midday.
While the campaign saw the BJP and the Congress trading fire over the promise in the latter’s manifesto to proscribe the Bajrang Dal, polling went off peacefully on May 10, with the eventual turnout recorded at a robust 73.29 per cent.
A party needs to win 113 seats to reach the majority mark and stake a claim to forming the government in Karnataka.
The key constituencies to watch out for on result day are Varuna, Kanakapura, Shiggaon, Hubli-Darwad, Channapatna, Shikaripura, Chittapur, Ramanagara, and Chikmagalur.
The results in these seats could well sway the eventual outcome of the Assembly polls.
