Las Vegas venue brings back huge star to crush residency record

Las Vegas Strip guests have always had plenty of options for entertainment in the various hotel-casino theaters in the city. It's just a matter of deciding who or what you want to see.

Superstar rock band U2 will be the opening headline act in late September when Sphere Entertainment Co.'s  (SPHR) - Get Free Report The Sphere debuts its 17,000-seat high-tech arena just off the Strip on Sept. 29. The 25-show residency, which concludes Dec. 16, is sold out and is probably still the hottest ticket in town. Secondary market tickets are available on Ticketmaster.com for as low as $1,125 on opening night to the best price of $400.21 for a Wednesday night on Oct. 18, Oct. 25, Nov. 1, Dec. 6 or Dec. 13.

Some Vegas visitors might prefer a classic magician and illusionist like David Copperfield, who has been a Las Vegas Strip icon since starting out in the 1980s and currently performs at the MGM Resorts International's  (MGM) - Get Free Report MGM Grand Hotel and Casino. Penn & Teller's magic, illusion and comedy act had also been popular on the Strip for 30 years before switching over to the off-Strip Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in 2001.

The "Sweet and Innocent" singer has signed on for 55 more shows in an extended residency beginning Jan. 23 and ending May 11, 2024 at Harrah's Showroom. Dethroning the King of Rock

Elvis Presley last performed in Vegas in 1976, less than a year before his untimely death in 1977, but his legacy lives on in Sin City. However, one classic pop singer is determined to dethrone the King of Rock from a record he has held for over 45 years.  

Popular 1970s superstar singer Barry Manilow began his long-running residency at the Westgate Las Vegas in February 2005 and continues to perform sellouts in the International Theater where Elvis Presley opened the hotel casino in 1969 when it was the International Hotel, before becoming the Las Vegas Hilton, then Westgate.

After 18 years of performing at the Westgate, the "Copacabana" singer is set to break Elvis Presley's record of 636 sold out shows at the venue on the weekend of Sept. 23. However, it only took Elvis over seven years to set that record, a mark that will be difficult for anyone to take away from Elvis.

Barry Manilow extends record-setting residency

Manilow is also set to crush Elvis' record of sold out shows as he signed on to extend his residency at the Westgate by adding 45 new dates to his residency beginning Feb. 15, 2024, and concluding Dec. 14, 2024.

Tickets for the extended residency go on sale Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. Pacific time at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets for the remaining 20 shows in Manilow's 2023 residency at the Westgate that finishes Dec. 9 are currently on sale at Ticketmaster.
