The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the murder of former Maharashtra minister and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) leader Baba Siddique. Per the Mumbai Police, two of the shooters have been arrested while 1/3 is still on the run. The 2 arrested shooters, have been identified as Gurmail Baljit Singh, 23, from Haryana and 19-year-old Dharamraj Kashyap, from Uttar Pradesh. The 1/3 shooter, identified as Shiv Kumar, also hails from UP.

An official said a fourth man, who they agree with acted as the handler and passed information about Siddique’s whereabouts to the shooters, is additionally at large.

As per the police, Baba Siddique’s assassination used to be contract killing and the shooters were paid an advance amount of Rs 50,000 for the hit. They moreover said that guns were supplied to the three accused days in advance of the they carried out the killing.

At around 9:30 PM on Saturday night, the three armed attackers waylaid Baba Siddique outside his son’s office in Mumbai’s Bandra East and fired six rounds at him, two of which struck the NCP leader on his chest. The sixty six-year-old crumbled to the ground lying in a pool of blood, and used to be rushed to the Lilavati Health center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Hours after Siddique’s fatal shooting, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack, declaring that the kid-kisser came in their crosshairs as a result of his proximity to Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who has faced several death threats from the group led by notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

The Mumbai Police has also confirmed the involvement of Lawrence Bishnoi gang in Siddique’s killings, stating that the case is being probed from “every angle”.

Meanwhile, security has been strengthened outside Salman Khan’s Bandra place of abode where shots were fired by two bike-borne gunmen in April, earlier this year. The accused, who were later arrested, confessed that the Bishnoi gang had issued Rs 25 lakh contract to kill Salman Khan, a plan they'd hatched from August 2023 to April 2024.
