Looking at Bollywood films where a mother kills her child amid Bengaluru CEO Suchana Seth's arrest

In a shocking turn of events, Bengaluru CEO Suchana Seth was arrested in Karnataka’s Chitradurga after she was accused of killing her four-year old son. Hindi films have too explored this hideous reality where a parent killed its own blood for different reasons. Here are some of the names revisited:

Mother India

Arguably the best and the greatest example is Mehboob Khan’s Mother India. Nargis Dutt played Sunil Dutt’s mother and had to gun her own son down out of sheer desperation and harsh circumstances. It went down as one of the most iconic climatic sequences of Hindi cinema and the same intensity and rage was never replicated or reached again.

Vaastav- The Reality

Four decades later, Mahesh Manjrekar made this fiery and gritty drama, again where an innocent man became a victim of crime and circumstances and turned into an outlaw. Reema Lagoo and Sanjay Dutt’s pairing as the mother and son is for the ages. The climax where she shoots her son right in the head is for the ages, and still one of their finest hours in films.

Rahasya and Talvar

The Aarushi Talwar murder case is as fascinating as it is murky and complex. And just as compelling has been its depiction on celluloid. In the same year, Hindi cinema gave us Rahasya and Talvar, where the actors who played Aarushi’s parents literally had to repeat the same scene twice, once as the victims and then as the culprits. The masterstroke is how till the end the audiences aren’t told which side of the parents was true. And how did it all happen?

Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe

That it turned out to be a turd of a film is unrelated here, it does show a mother killing her own child, and sacrificing her own life too. Jaya Bachchan and Sanjay Kapoor starred in a yet-another remake of Sleeping With The Enemy after Yaraana, Agni Sakshi, and Daraar. In all the films, the makers came up with different and new ideas to eliminate the character of the evil husband.
