On Friday, Antony Blinken, the United States Secretary, made a statement that “We took these steps in keeping with our conclusion that Rossiya Segodnya and these five subsidiaries are now now not merely firehoses of Russian government propaganda and disinformation; they are engaged in covert influence activities aimed at undermining American elections and democracies, functioning like a de facto arm of Russia’s intelligence apparatus.”

He further alleged that the leaders of RT oversaw a web based crowdfunding project to present armed forces gear to Russian forces battling in Ukraine, to boot to their covert influence operations.

The CNN reported that consistent with Blinken, Russian forces engaged in wrestle in Ukraine received “sniper rifles, suppressors, body armor, night vision equipment, drones, radio equipment, personal weapon sights, and diesel generators” attributable to the crowdfunding campaign.

The announcement by the United States State Department comes as a section of an even bigger US government initiative to decrease RT’s influence across the globe, consistent with CNN.

“We’re taking steps to hold accountable people that weaponize disinformation to undermine our democracy. That’s what we did just last week when the State Department, the Justice Department, the Treasury Department, and the FBI took a series of coordinated actions to counter Russian influence and interference in our elections and in our democracy,” Blinken continued.

“To boot to imposing sanctions, visa restrictions, and other measures, the State Department also designated the Russian state-funded and directed media company Rossiya Segodnya and five of its subsidiaries, including RT, lower than the Foreign Missions Act. Subsequently, these actors are now required to notify the State Department of all personnel working in the USA to boot to their property,” he added.

This announcement came a week after federal prosecutors declared that two RT personnel members would face criminal charges for transferring 10 million USD to a US business to be able to be easy to give and promote programming which favoured Russian interest.
