Missile attack on Ukraine kills one, knocks out Kyiv power

A Russian missile assault against Ukraine on Wednesday, one man was murdered in the southern city of Mykolaiv, while at least six others were injured in Kyiv, which lost electricity in several areas.

Russia launched a cruise missile strike on Ukraine about 0400 GMT, launching missile groups towards Kyiv and other territories, according to the air force.

The all-clear signal was sent just before 0700 GMT.

Oleksandr Senkevich, the mayor of Mykolaiv, stated that one man died as a result of severe injuries sustained during the attack, which peeled roofs from 20 buildings and destroyed gas and water infrastructure in the port city.

AFP correspondents reported hearing loud explosions in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that six individuals had been hurt in the city.

Fires were raging on multiple stories of an 18-story apartment building in the city’s southern Golosiivskyi area, where three people were hospitalised, Klitschko added.

The incident occurred while EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell was visiting the capital.

During the incident, he went to his hotel’s air raid bunker, according to an AFP correspondent.

Klitschko reported that three persons were injured in Kyiv’s Dnipro district, a residential neighbourhood on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River, where missile fragments damaged high-voltage wires.

According to an energy firm, the Dnipro area is partially without electricity, and repairs will begin once the all-clear is given.
