New Airport Technology Could Use This Scary Identifier Instead of Passports

A U.K.-based based airline has made some surprising predictions about the future of travel.

Have you ever gotten to the airport, ready to travel abroad, only to discover that you left your passport at home?

Well, in the future you should be ok, as long as you don’t forget to bring your heartbeat as well.

The U.K.-based airline Easyjet recently unveiled a number of “predictions for 2070,” and quite a few of them are…let’s go with the term “bold.”

For instance, ergonomic and biomimetic sensory plane seats with smart materials will adapt to passengers’ body shape, height, weight, and temperature, providing a tailored comfort flying experience, according to the report.

In addition, food printed by a 3D printer will likely be served to passengers eating on board the flights.

But perhaps the most surprising claim is that, according to experts it consulted, one day airports will scan people's heartbeats and biometric details instead of just asking for a passport.

“Much like fingerprints and the retina, every person's cardiac signature is unique,” the report said. "Passengers' heartbeat signatures and biometric details will be logged on a global system in the same way finger-print scanning technology works today."

Other interesting predictions that may make you feel like you are living in the world of “Blade Runner” or “Minority Report” include the idea that in-flight entertainment will be beamed directly into your eyes, while flying air taxis will replace airport shuttle buses.
