Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, World Cup 2023: Pakistan take on Asian rivals Sri Lanka Tuesday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Pakistan played their first match at the same venue and defeated the Netherlands by 81 runs, while Sri Lanka lost to South Africa by 102 runs in their first game played in Delhi. While Pakistan will hope to continue their winning momentum, Sri Lanka would want to get the first win of the league stage.

Sri Lanka’s loss to South Africa could be attributed to the failure of their bowlers as three Proteas batters struck centuries. In the absence of injured Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga, the Lankan bowlers struggled on the flat track of the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

It’s in this department that Sri Lanka need to improve the most. The change of venue, however, is set to assist them. Hyderabad has batting-friendly conditions but the pitch is not expected to be as flat as it was in Delhi. Pakistan, however, will still have an advantage having played their warm-ups and a World Cup match in the city.

The Pakistani batters would hope to have a better outing this time after being bowled out for 286 by the Netherlands. If not for the fifties by Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel, Pakistan could have put up a highly vulnerable total. Eventually, the Netherlands were dismissed for 205 in the match, but the Pakistanis need improvement in both, the batting and bowling departments.
