Pooja Bhatt responds to claims that Alia Bhatt is her daughter: 'Not new in our country'

Pooja Bhatt, with her appearance in the reality show Bigg Boss OTT 2, left everyone mesmerised. Her captivating personality and straightforward behaviour led her to become one of the finalists. She has garnered a lot of love and respect from her fans across the nation.

It is in public knowledge that the actress is also the half-sister of Alia Bhatt. Both are daughters of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and have an age gap of 21 years. however, a section of people have been claiming that Alia is Pooja Bhatt‘s daughter. Refuting the claims, the Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi actress has called them absurd.

Pooja Bhatt reacts

In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Pooja was asked to weigh in on the claims that the duo are not sisters, but mother and daughter. In response, Pooja said that these rumours are ‘idiotic’ adding that such rumours reveal the true personality of the person spreading it.

“Ye toh humare desh mein bahut purani cheez hai (This is not new in our country). Start talking about somebody’s relationship with their daughter or with their bhabhi or with their sister or with their whatever. Now, how do you counteract that? Ke aap iss cheez ko dignity bhi de sakte hai respond kar ke? It is absurd,” Pooja added.

Mahesh Bhatt’s daughters from different marriages

For those unversed, Pooja Bhatt is the daughter of Mahesh Bhatt from his first marriage with Lorraine Bright aka Kiran Bhatt. Kiran and Mahesh got married at the age of 20 and 21 respectively. The duo parted ways after Mahesh began dating Bollywood veteran Parveen Babi.

Mahesh Bhatt later tied the knot with Soni Razdan. The couple has two daughters – Shaheen Bhatt and Alia Bhatt.

Alia Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt’s heartwarming bond

While people assume that the stepsiblings might not share a great bond with each other, it’s the opposite. Moreover, during her appearance on The Anupam Kher Show in 2014, Alia spilled beans on her relationship with Pooja. She had revealed, “There is no fakeness in our relationship. Actually recently it’s become much better. We have gotten close as a family. People would always say that you have a step sister, step mother and all that but it never bothered me.”

On the other hand, Pooja marked her presence at Alia’s wedding with Ranbir Kapoor in 2022. She also shared a picture of the stylish couple and wrote, “Love conquers all! @aliaabhatt #ranbirkapoor #ranbiraliawedding.”
