Rohit Sharma’s Last? Potential Captains to Lead India after T20 World Cup

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team has already started preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup in United States of America and West Indies. They kickstart their campaign with on June 5 against Ireland followed by a big game against rivals Pakistan. Rohit Sharma, 37 is nearing an end to his career and there are speculations that this world cup may be his last assignment as captain. Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) might have an eye on the future which is coming as at one point of time Rohit will be leaving the team. A problem that might arise is that there are very few players who actually play all three formats of the game and BCCI has never been fond of split captaincy in the past years.

Let’s have a look at the potential candidates who could replace Rohit as captain in the Indian team.

  • Hardik Pandya

The current vice-captain of the Indian team is probably the next option for BCCI. Rohit’s deputy has been in and out of the side due to injuries and rarely plays three format. The thing that adds his presence is his captaincy experience with Gujarat Titans, where he won a title and took the team into the finals in the next. His decision making for the Mumbai Indians has been under scrutiny. His individual performance had an impact due to the pressure. If he’s available for all formats and keeps himself fit, he is a potential candidate to replace Rohit.

  • K L Rahul

Lucknow Super Giant captain was not picked in the squad for the mega event but he has been an important member for the squad. His leadership qualities has also been visible for the franchises and the previous teams he has captained. The major thing that might effect his candidature is his dip in form but he is a complete player for all three formats.

  • Rishabh Pant

The ideal candidate, who is an undisputable starter in all three formats for the nation. The only point that goes against him is the recent major injury which he suffered in December, 2022. His form after that will be a point and he could be a candidate for the long term in the coming days.
