Ahead of the India vs Sri Lanka World Cup match in Mumbai, an extraordinary celebration awaits India’s greatest cricketing icon, Sachin Tendulkar, as a life-sized statue of the Master Blaster is all set to be unveiled at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. The statue will capture the very essence of the legendary batter as he gracefully executes his signature, over-the-top stroke with finesse. The statue has been thoughtfully positioned adjacent to the revered Sachin Tendulkar Stand, forging a symbolic connection between the iconic cricketer and the venue that witnessed countless indelible moments in his illustrious career.

This upcoming ceremony promises to be a star-studded spectacle, featuring a distinguished array of dignitaries. Sachin Tendulkar himself will bestow his presence upon the occasion apart from Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the distinguished Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The cricketing world will be well-represented, with key figures from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with Secretary Jay Shah and Treasurer Ashish Shelar present.

This sculpture is the artistic creation of Pramod Kamble, a painter-sculptor hailing from Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. He has played a huge role in immortalising Tendulkar at the very heart of Indian cricket. Remarkably, this installation comes almost a decade after Tendulkar’s final appearance in Indian colours. Incidentally, Sachin played his final Test match in Mumbai back in November 2013 against the West Indies.

An Indian Icon who started out in Mumbai

Sachin Tendulkar, whose cricket odyssey began in Mumbai, found his home at the Wankhede Stadium. From his initial cricketing days to winning the 2011 Cricket World Cup, Tendulkar’s journey completed one full circle. And then, he ended his career before his adoring fans on a day when there was not a single dry eye. Incidentally, Tendulkar’s legacy extends to diverse corners, including the world-famous Madame Tussauds, where his lifelike wax statue was unveiled in 2009.
