Sandeep Vanga hits back at Javed Akhtar for comments on 'Animal': 'Your son made Mirzapur, felt like puking and...'

Veteran writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar was at an event recently where he spoke about Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Ranbir Kapoor’s film Animal and spoke at length about the dangerous trend its success could create. In particular, he spoke about the one scene where Kapoor’s character asks the character of Tripti Dimri to lick his shoe before he walks away from the scene.

And in an interview with Siddharth Kanan, Vanga opened up on the criticism and said Akhtar clearly didn’t see the film and the scene he criticized was supposed to be seen within the context of the film.

Vanga said, “It’s very clear in that comment that he did not see the entire film. Now, if someone is talking without watching the film, what can I say about them?”

He added, “Obviously, you feel bad because it is very clear that he has not seen the film and not only about him, anybody who is throwing stones at an artwork, why don’t they check their surroundings first?”

About Mirzapur

Why didn’t he tell the same thing to Farhan Akhtar when he was producing ‘Mirzapur’. Duniya bhar ke gaali Mirzapur ek show mai hai and I haven’t watched the whole show. When the show was translated to Telugu, if you watch that, then you will feel like puking. Why is he not checking his son’s work?

Team Animal hits back too

Team Animal hit back at Akhtar by saying all his art form is big false and stated the reason for the same. However, fans on X have stood by Akhtar and slammed the makers of the film for their retort. They brought examples of Amitabh Bachchan’s Deewar and Shah Rukh Khan’s Swades.

Directed by Sandeep Vanga, “Animal” emerged as the most divisive film of 2023 which received criticism for its graphic content, extreme violence, and treatment of female characters. It’s also noteworthy that the movie is one of the top earning Hindi films of the year with ₹ 900 crore at box office globally.

In the post shared by the film’s official X page, the team further said had a woman asked a man to lick her shoe, the moment would have been celebrated in the name of “feminism”.
