The King Khan of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan ruled 2023 by delivering two monstrous blockbusters in Pathaan & Jawan, cumulatively earning over Rs 2100 crore at the global box office. While the megastar made the greatest comeback ever with these two pan-India actioners, SRK also wants to end the year with a bang with the highly-anticipated Dunki, which is set to hit the screens during the Christmas weekend.
However, Christmas has now turned out to be merrier as Prabhas starrer Salaar, which was supposed to release last Thursday, will now arrive a day after Dunki to enjoy the perks of holidays & New Year weekends.
Yes, the box office will witness the clash of two global stars, who enjoy humongous fandom across the globe along with two filmmakers, Rajkumar Hirani & Prashanth Neel, who have a 100 per cent success ratio.
Expectations from Dunki
Finally, the cinegoers will see the ultimate combo of Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, who has delivered memorable films like Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots, PK and Sanju. Just like all his previous films, Dunki is expected to be filled with good-feel vibes with a dose of comedy, romance and a subtle social message, which is relevant to contemporary society.
Salaar – Celebration of heroism
The teaser and looks of the ensemble cast of Salaar have garnered tremendous response from the audience. Just like Ugramm, KGF & KGF 2, this pan-India actioner shows the larger-than-life aura of the lead protagonist along with some powerful action sequences, hard-hitting emotional elements and never-seen-before visual story-telling. Also, the film is very crucial for the lead star as his last ventures including Radhe Shyam and Adipurush have failed miserably at the box office.
Clash of the Titans
While this clash is undoubtedly a double treat for moviegoers, it has turned out to be a point of concern for the distributors and exhibitors as there will be a fight for the screens, especially in the northern part of the country. Looking at the feel of both films, Dunki has the potential to open with big numbers in the multiplexes of the metro cities while Salaar will undoubtedly create mayhem in the mass centres and single screens.
Opening day numbers
In the past, pan-India ventures belonging to the action genre including the Baahubali series, KGF series, RRR, Pushpa, Pathaan and Jawan have turned out to be record-smashers at the box office. So, analysing that scenario, we can expect Salaar to open big compared to Dunki at the ticket windows. Also, Prabhas enjoys an indescribable fanbase in the southern markets along with a superb following in the northern belt, which gives the Prashanth Neel directorial an edge over the SRK starrer.
However, Hirani films have always enjoyed a long run at the box office due to the repeat-viewing experience of moviegoers. So, while Salaar will open big, Dunki will undoubtedly have a much longer run due to its genre which is very friendly to family audiences.
