Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web show Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar made waves ever since its debut on Netflix. Aditi Rao Hydari’s Bibbojaan was shown to be a courageous rebel while Sonakshi Sinha’s Fareedan and Manisha Koirala as Mallikajaan were engaged in a vengeance battle. However, up until the final episode, Sharmin Segal’s character Alamzeb was certain that she would not follow her mother’s wish and become a tawaif. The historic period drama’s gripping narrative struck a chord with many. From songs to magnificent sets, Heeramandi became the talk of the town. However, ‘Chaudhavi Shab‘ was the only music video from the show that wasn’t released until now out of all the tracks.

Ever since its release, netizens haven’t stopped raving about Shreya Ghoshal’s melodic voice, which perfectly captured the heartfelt lyrics penned by A M Turaz. Sanjay, the creator of the program, deserved all the credit for the composition. In the song, Sharmin Segal portrayed Alamzeb in all her splendour, drenched in tears and donning ivory anarkali and ornate jewellery. Netizens, however, disapproved of Sharmin’s ‘expressionless’ presentation in the video.
One of the users wrote, “Everything is empty without Bibbojaan ( Aditi Rao Hydari ma’am).” Another user commented, “Watching only for Shreya Ghoshal and beautiful backdrop.” The third user said, “Sharmin doesn’t have the eyes which can fill the missing expressions in this song… Hopes lost.” Many expressed their desire to see Deepika Padukone in the music video. The fourth user said, “Even Shreya Ghoshal couldn’t save the song.”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the creator and director of the opulent period drama series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The filmmaker, who is renowned for his magnificent flair in depicting love, betrayal, and grandeur, works his spell on the pre-independence Indian courtesan community. The Indian’s fight against the British Raj is shown in the series against the backdrop of Lahore’s Heera Mandi red-light district.
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar will debut on Netflix in 2024, in association with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Famous actors include Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh Adhyayan Suman, Shekhar Suman, Taha Shah Badussha, Farida Jalal, and a few more in other significant parts may be seen in the star-studded series. On May 1, the show became available for viewing on Netflix.
Sharmin has been subjected to trolling. Several people have attacked the actor, labelling her ‘expressionless,’ ever since Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar debuted on digital media. Internet users even asked the creators of the period drama to switch Sharmin for Aditi in the announcement’s comment section.
