Sonu Nigam reveals Anu Malik bullied him when he was new to the industry, says 'Felt intimidated by him'

Anu Malik and Sonu Nigam have worked together in many memorable films and given a string of melodies that will forever be etched in people’s minds. Some of their collaborations include Border, Soldier, Refugee, LOC Kargil, Fiza, Aaghaaz, Ajnabee, Ab Ke Baras, Main Hoon Na, Waqt- The Race Against Time, Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyon, No Entry, Chor Machaye Shor, Jaan-E-Mann, and many more. They even judged Indian Idol together.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Nigam revealed how Malik used to bully him when he was new. He said, “First I used to get scared of him. When I was new in the industry, he used to bully me, in the sense that he was older than me, and had a lot of experience. I met him when I was 14 years old, at a competition which I won. That time he had said, ‘Get him to me when he grows up.”

He added, “When I came to Mumbai, my father and I went to see him. He was very intimidating at that time. But slowly, I understood how to deal with him. Jitna daboge, utna dabaenge (The more you will go in a corner, the more you will be cornered). I even learnt a lot from him, he is my guruji,”

When Sonu Nigam collaborated with Subhash Ghai for 36 Farmhouse

About the collaboration, Sonu said, “‘Subhash ji is like family to me. I always feel the warmth and love of a father from him when he is around me. He has been a part of my life since Pardes and I can feel that he’s internally proud of me and the fact that he has played a very important role in shaping up my initial musical life.”

About lending his voice to the song for 36 Farmhouse, he said, ”I can never say no for anything to Subhash ji. This time around, he composed the song too, bedsides writing it. Since I treat him like my own, I did recommend him Meghdeep Bose as the music producer to further beautify his song and he listened to me because he trusts me. It goes without saying that Subhash ji has always had a knack for music.
