While it is nearly impossible to stop gushing over Hollywood biggies like Quentin Tarantino, Steven Spielberg, and Christopher Nolan, one can also never overlook the works of our Indian directors who have blessed the screens with their talent and skills. Whether it’s Satyajit Ray, to start with the classics, other filmmakers like Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap, and Karan Johar are also counted among the best we know today. While there are many successful directors, there are also some who didn’t taste much success.

Having directed more than 33 films in the last 31 years, director Vikram Bhatt has managed to give only 4-5 hits till now. Otherwise known as the “master of horror films”, Bhatt is often credited for directing the superhit horror film ‘Raaz‘, featuring actors Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea in the lead roles. However, it seems like the director remains quite unlucky in his career, which spans over three decades.

To understand this better, let’s take a look at his filmography, beginning right from 1992 to his last release, which was in 2022 with Judaa Hoke Bhi.

Vikram Bhatt delivered 3-4 hits on the sidelines of several flops

Vikram Bhatt started his career as an independent director with the 1992 film ‘Janaam‘, but it was a big flop at the box office. Next, he directed films like Madhosh, Fareb, Bambai Ka Babu, and Gunehgar. All of these underperformed at the box office. It was finally in 1998 when Bhatt delivered his first hit with ‘Ghulam‘. The film not only became successful at the box office but also got him a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Director. His next release was in 2001 with Aftab Shivdasani starrer Kasoor.

In 2002, Vikram Bhatt delivered one of the biggest films of his career with Raaz, starring actors Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea in the lead roles. Based on the American supernatural horror film ‘What Lies Beneath‘, it was once again nominated for Best Director at the Filmfare Awards.

Following this, in the upcoming years, Bhatt directed films like Awara Paagal Deewana, Inteha, Footpath, Aetbaar, Deewane Huye Pagal, and more, which were either flops or average.

Next in 2008, Vikram Bhatt delivered his third hit film with the horror film ‘1920‘. Following that, he directed a few other horror films like Shaapit and Haunted 3D. According to Sacnilk, Haunted 3D, which was made on a budget of Rs 13 crore, was declared a hit. The film went on to collect around Rs 34.25 crores in India.

Continuing with his horror genre, he directed films like Raaz 3, Creature 3D, Raaz Reboot, 1921, and Ghost among others. While most of his films were flopping at the box office, some of them did average business. In a career spanning over three decades, Vikram Bhatt has directed over 30 films. While only 3-4 films are counted as successful, around 29 films are counted in the list of super flops or average.
