Tiger Woods' drops first ad for new, post-Nike apparel brand

Tiger Woods iconic red polo will no longer have the famous Nike swoosh on it. Instead, there will be a new logo — one that is uniquely his.

Woods announced in January that he was leaving the Nike brand after 27 years. Woods and his partner brand TaylorMade on Feb. 12 said they would be launching a new apparel brand called Sun Day Red.

The brand name is of course an ode to the red polo Woods had popularized for wearing on the final day of tournaments. Woods is the most-decorated golfer of all-time having won 82 PGA Tour tournaments, which is tied for the record with Sam Snead, including 15 majors, which is second behind Jack Nicklaus.

The brand logo found on the apparel is shaped like a Tiger, though there are 15 stripes on the tiger to signify each of Woods' major wins.

Woods and TaylorMade announced the apparel brand on Monday in Pacific Palisades, Calif., right before the start of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club.

While the brand's website said it's expected to launch on May 1, there are a few things already known about the apparel that will be made available. According to Golf Digest, the launch event had six men's pieces that included two golf shirts, two hoodies, a full-zip jacket, and a quarter-zip pullover.

There were also samples of accessories like golf shoes and gloves.

Woods also posted about the announcement on his social media accounts with a short teaser video that highlighted Woods' iconic red polo but ended with bold text saying, "It's A Brand New Day." Nearly three decades after his time with Nike, it certainly is going to be a very new look for Woods.

Other athletes to launch similar apparel brands under the larger umbrella of a massive sports apparel company include Nike's highly successful Jordan brand of NBA legend Michael Jordan and Under Armour's Curry brand with four-time NBA champion Steph Curry.
