U-19 World Cup: Skipper Uday Saharan among four Indians included in ICC's 'Team of the Tournament'

Skipper Uday Saharan was among the four Indian players included in ICC’s ‘Team of the Tournament’ for the U-19 World Cup that concluded on Sunday in Benoni. Saharan led the Indians from the front, finishing at the very top of the batting charts with 397 runs at an average of 56.71, smashing a century against Nepal as well as 81 against South Africa in the semi-finals.

Besides Saharan, batters Musheer Khan and Sachin Dhas and left-arm spinner Saumy Pandey have been included in the XI that is captained by Australia skipper Hugh Weibgen, who led his team to a 79-run victory over the ‘Boys in Blue’ at the Willowmoore Park on Sunday. Weibgen and Co not only won Australia their fourth world title at the U-19 level, they also ended their jinx against the Indians in U-19 World Cup finals, having lost both of their previous meetings at this stage.

Hosts South Africa, on the other hand, have two including Player of the Tournament Kwena Maphaka — who finished the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 21 scalps. Pakistan, the other team to reach the semi-finals, and West Indies have one player each in the lineup.
