Ukraine sniper scalps Russian soldier at record distance with 'Lord of Horizon' rifle. Why is it so deadly?

In a historic milestone, a sniper serving in Ukraine’s security service (SBU) claimed a groundbreaking world record by successfully neutralising a Russian soldier from an astounding distance of 2.36 miles.

The weapon responsible for this extraordinary feat is a meticulously crafted rifle known as the ‘Lord of the Horizon,’ designed by the Ukrainian arms manufacturer MAYAK.

Lord of the Horizon: The Game-Changing Firearm

Delving into the details, the ‘Lord of the Horizon’ emerges as a formidable piece of weaponry, boasting a staggering length of 6 feet.

Crafted by MAYAK, this custom rifle showcases its prowess by firing bullets that maintain supersonic speeds for nearly 10,000 feet when coupled with the appropriate ammunition.

An Ukrainian sniper set a new world record. With his sniper rifle “Horizon’s Lord”, which is chambered in 12.7x114HL, he accurately hit on a distance of 3,800m the Russian at the right side.

The SBU proudly asserts that their snipers are not just rewriting global sniping norms but are also demonstrating unmatched proficiency in operating effectively over remarkable distances.

The video footage capturing the momentous shot depicts the Russian target falling several seconds after the SBU sniper took the shot. A line of three stationary Russian soldiers is swiftly reduced to two, underscoring the precision and impact of this record-breaking achievement.

The Ghosts of Bakhmut

This record-making shot follows another by a different Ukrainian sniper, who purportedly secured the second-longest combat kill in history at a distance of 1.7 miles.

The Ghosts of Bakhmut, a renowned unit in Ukraine, plays a pivotal role in these feats. The unit’s commander, known as Ghost, provides insight into the challenging reality of sniper missions.

Contrary to cinematic portrayals, snipers endure up to 16 hours in a single position, highlighting the crucial combination of survival skills and marksmanship prowess.

Ghost, who claims to have eliminated at least 113 Russian targets, emphasizes the rigorous nature of their operations—working around the clock with no weekends.
