US professor sacked for anti-Israel posts on social media

Due to his anti-Israel tirades, a New York City professor who was seen on camera putting a machete to a reporter’s neck was fired.

In an email, Shellyne Rodriguez, 47, stated, “I was fired by Cooper Union due to a social media post I made about Zionists.”

The following day, on January 23, the Cooper Union Students for Justice in Palestine posted her email on Instagram.

“This is fascism,” she wrote. “Y’all are learning about it in real-time.”

Rodriguez said in an Instagram post that she was let go due to “public comments about ‘Zionists.'”

Although Rodriguez is no longer listed as an adjunct on Cooper Union’s faculty page, a spokesman for the college informed the media that it does not comment on personnel concerns.

It’s unclear, though, which posts or remarks ultimately resulted in her termination.

Notably, Rodriguez participated in a panel discussion at CUNY for Palestine, where some have accused her of making antisemitic sentiments. Additionally, she altered a flier she uploaded on Instagram to make it appear as though it was covered in cockroaches and promoted an event in support of Israel.

Former Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr was one of the event’s participants.

“Look at this dirty f-ing roach former Bronx borough president Ruben Diaz Jr. a Zionist lapdog,” Rodriguez wrote in the caption.
